112lbs of thrust + 72” shaft for the top model: http://www.minnkotamotors.com/Trolling- ... e-Ulterra/
Both companies are leading the market but MK is certainly leading the way with innovation & wonder how MG will respond?

Both seem to have reliability issues.

I’m looking at getting the MG 105lbs 36v as I can’t wait that long.
Does anyone have this model, Pros & Cons?
I have the 36volt model MG unit. It is awesome and 100% better than my previous MK unit with respect to spot holding and dare I say durability also (admittedly its still pretty new).

with the price difference between the MG and MK units at this size being about $900 (MK being more expensive) I don't see the MK as viable competition unless they produce something MG doesn't provide.

I suggest people don't get tied up with "Brand Loyalty" as the pivotal reason for your purchase.

I'm yet to take the plunge myself, but reading all the stories about reliability I'm most likely going to go Minn Kota.

The saltwater Ulterra is due shortly, and it comes with the option of 36 volts and a 70" shaft. That suits me perfectly.

Something MG doesn't provide? Have you seen what the MK Ulterra does?

I think auto deploy is the best feature since these units came to market but without 2 GPS receivers I’ll give it a miss.
Interesting to see if the SW Ulterra has this feature? It doesn't indicate that it has on the MK site.

Spot lock works fine if you motor up to the spot you want to fish and then pop in reverse to hold u stationery, once you have stopped then spot Lo k on the spot and jobs done. I have found that if you have forward momentum and then just hit spot lock it takes ages for the minkota to work out the spot you want to stay at. This minkota was a 50th birthday present from my boys and couldn't be more thankful!!!!!!!

.

I heard MK were going to release an upgraded GPS in the second quarter of 2016. No idea if it'll be upgradeable on the existing units.

Up to one year nearly on my MG and it has been pretty good except for the problem I had with the control early doors which was soon rectified by Micheal at I&OBM.

Finally hooked up the 80lb MG to the 580 tomahawk. I share the mg between my 2 boats and using it abit on the 485 Trailcraft and love the spotlock function. Heaps better then the minn Kota in my opinion. Just wish the remote has a display.

I will testing her out at Dundee this weekend so hoping the 60inch shalf is long enough to hold her when it's choppy.i have upgraded to a 3 blade and it sits at the same level as the keel so finger cross it going to be ok.

Balou where did you get the prop from? I use mine at Dundee all the time on my topender. If its a big chop it will cavitate a bit but are generally ok. Another couple of inches would be handy though. Story of my life.
