I would love to replaced minn kota with a MG as it's getting on- 7years old but I might wait until they improve the durability - a leccy that doesn't work is no good to me

Ive had my 80lb MG for 3 months and its at in and out atm because its not turning left and right at all!
Ive replaced my batteries that lasted 4 years (thx Batteryworld) but the not turning thing is still happening
tried disconnecting etc and it starts to turn but then seizes up??
Love paying all that coin and then told that yr unit won't get looked at for at least a week!
Spotlock was really exceptional I'm just a bit miffed at the moment after waiting 6 weeks to get one in the first place.
Cheers

Well looks like I have fried another Motorguide. Im really starting to question their reliability.

This time we were spot locked in 30m of water and pop went the fuse. Hmmmmm check all wiring and then try put another fuse in. Pop went that fuse.....

Well ill leave it and return home to fix it. Replace fuse holder and wiring to be sure there is no issue there at all. Power it up and POP goes the motorguide. It then let all the spoke out of the motorboard. Im guessing this is a bad thing.

Off to O&OM again.

I ended up purchasing a 36 volt MG and I have been using it couple of months now.

I must say it is awesome and leaves my old MK for dead. In comparison the Min Kota seems like old technology in all areas of operation.

Best part is it was $1000 cheaper than the MK.

Brendan seems to be having a bad run of luck. Hope it gets sorted. Is the product support as good or better than the MK support (which was awful)?

Product support is great so far and the guys at I&Om have been excellent
They fix them in house also where as the MK gets sent away

Great they can fix them here. That is reason enough to buy one in my opinion (after having my Minn Kota out of action on several occasions for weeks on end.

ive had both, when the Minn Kota broke down it had to be sent down south for repair, when the Motor Guide broke it was fixed here in Darwin on the same day,
MG has a better spot lock and hooks up to my lowrance, but I do miss the LCD screen on the MK remote

Fished with a mate on the weekend with a new MK. It seems the remote has got a lot larger which was a pain wearing around your neck all day, and we were struggling to get a full day charge out the remote as they now have a rechargable battery & Lcd display. It think it;s a step in the wrong direction. Also, spot lock was cr.p in the light boat, over corrected and basically made impossible to use it creeks. My 80lb works better on spot lock as my boat is pretty heavy and seems to not overcorrect.

Looks like the new MK “saltwater” auto deploy Riptide Ulterra is finally on its way, according to their website early 2016.
112lbs of thrust + 72” shaft for the top model: http://www.minnkotamotors.com/Trolling- ... e-Ulterra/
Both companies are leading the market but MK is certainly leading the way with innovation & wonder how MG will respond?

Both seem to have reliability issues.

I’m looking at getting the MG 105lbs 36v as I can’t wait that long.
Does anyone have this model, Pros & Cons?

Motor Guide has two GPS receivers, Minn Kota has only one, better spot lock.

I read on one of the Humminbird forums that Minn Kota have redesigned their unit to cope with (compete against?) the MG's better spot lock, apparently due early/mid next year. I will wait.

Another problem with my MG again.. Got no steering at all. Fully charged batteries. Not the remote because even on spot lock it won't turn. Bit frustrating when you get on the water and find its not working.
