The jog feature works an absolute treat.
On spot lock you hit the button in any direction and it will move you that way 3ft at a time. Double tap it moves 6 ft etc.
The spot lock feature is very accurate compared to MK. Also very responsive. I would suggest going to the Machete III prop, 30 bucks through IN & OUTBOARD and it works awesome. Little more top end, can go shallower and also cuts down on yhe vibration.
Michael and the team are great to deal with and as with CC any issues I have had were replaced. my remote and circuit board were replaced. GPS module is getting replaced now.
More recordable Tracks than the MK and an awesome function when you buy the link cable to the Lowrance is that you can make the MG take you to a nearby mark via your sounder. You can also then design drifts to suit the reef/wreck. So spot lock it then go into the anchor setting via the sounder and chose from various patterns. Then set the distance or diameter of the circle and choose the speed. You then hit ok and ut drifts you around in that pattern at a certain speed.
Awesome function to cover the whole wreck.

My motor guide is still going well, given it a bit of a workout over the last 12 months too
Spot lock works great in the creeks, and recording the track is great, just takes you along the same path again so all you have to do is cast
Used the jog feature too quite a bit, works well,, can't complain really

If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!
Especially when you can see them!

Thx men for the responses, Jog sounds great.
The auto deploy/stow looks quite nifty on the new MK Ulterra. Nothing like competition to bring out the best.

Brendan - you said "my remote and circuit board were replaced. GPS module is getting replaced now".
Was this a Motor Guide fault? Doesn't sound too promising, and I just picked up my new 36 volt Motor Guide.
I had these problems with my Minkota. maybe it is all just unreliable technology?

Amazing any electronic stuff lasts at all considering how hot this gear gets out in the sun, with saltwater, humidity, constant vibration and movement etc.

Well third time wasn't lucky. I had to get the gps module replaced. So I've had this thing for two months and haven't been able to use it yet. Will be trying it out next week. If it doesn't work I'll be getting a new one. At least they gave me a new remote and foot pedal for the hassle.

I was going to upgrade my Minn Kota for the improved spotlock functionality but I think I might wait a little while yet......

Wadeph, a few of the blokes above have mentioned the same problem, requires GPS module replacement I believe.

It finally works!!!!! And what a good piece of gear it is. The pin point is great on it and the jog feature is very very handy.

Re: Minn Kota ipilot Vs the Motorgude with spotlock
Ive Extensively used both...
and you couldn't give me a Minn Kota....
I just hate the Drift Lock...
But the IX5 that i have bought locks onto a spot solid and battery life is exceptional...
i can pick a heap of negatives from the Kota... but don't have any complaints about the Motor guide...
and I've spent a lot of hours on the water using both...
Just Saying...

Re: Minn Kota ipilot Vs the Motorgude with spotlock
The motorguide definitely has better features. The jog is awesome and the spot lock is just that. It is far more refined than the Minn Kota.
MAKREL my remote was replaced due to corrosion. No questions asked so I opened the new one up and used soft seal on the internals to protect it.
I than hit a rock and the motor blew a fuse. Put new fuse and and it blew again....
Checked all connections and put a new fuse in but no power at all. Turns out it fried the board and motor. Had that replaced and it than wasn't getting gps.
I recalibrated it according to the manual and it seems to work when moving.it around in my driveway. But I haven't been out to check it.
