I have been out in some rough glass boats and plate :banghead: I believe it is more hull design and how you boat through it that matters

The Tabs is the go in my opinion! I have the 475 tabs with the 90 mer in the side console. I had her 2 years now and 350 hrs on the merc. The boat fairly solid through the chop but she can get fairly wet. I will never buy another merc again. Went out with Ghound a while back and was very impress with his suzi. Sorry mercury owners but this is my opinion base on my limited boating experience.

I'm planing to either upgrade to a 90 suzi or talk the missus into trading the 475 for the 5.8 tabs but this time go for a suzi or yammie.

If you decide on the tabs talk to John Quinn, the boss at abc. He really looked after me on the price.

here we go...glass V's alloy :banghead: :banghead:

As you know smithy it's all a trade off.... I can go up any creek in the goodwin and draw SFA water...and I can do blue water easy as....but! Glass is more to look after...dirt and glass is a bad mix. BUT if your smart and have the $$ you can do what Max and Jason have done and put good stone guards under your trailer.... and full covers.

With my console set up full covers is out of the question but the stone guards are an option I am looking at.

If I was allowed too I would have kept the slapper as well as the goodwin....then I would of had the best of both worlds. But I am able to do what I want in the "floating esky" so I am happy with it.

This run off I am thinking of doing a 2 night trip round chambers bay leaving from darwin...just to fish them secret run off creeks... I couldn't have done that in the slapper with out worrying about weather and waves.

Have you looked at the tupperware boats?
they are supposed to be indestructible.

Glass is good but you have to be carefull around rooks etc but if you do any damage they are easy to repair.

My suzie is the best motor that I have had. They are very quite & smooth.

Also check out the Humminbird side scaners. Either the 900 or the 700 range depending on your budget.

Good luck & happy hunting. :titanic:

Ps Smithy the new suspension is great, do you have some for the trailer now to keep up
Smile, be happy & go fishing.

Work is getting in the way of my fishing.
My boss says fishing is getting in the way of my work.
I will soon fix both of our problems by quitting.

Glass vs Ally

Post by jasonmcc »

Good to see there is some more long boat owners on here 8-) I did a heap of research on the net before I bought my Southern Star UB520 long boat. I remember finding a post on a WA forum, the long boat style was the best do anything boat you can get.

Bang for your buck, I reckon you cant beat the long boats. The only down side I have seen is that they rock around a bit more at rest because of the skinny beam. If I had more money to spend I would of got something else. Probably a 651 Ocean Master, but they are about $75,000+ Bit different to my $28,000. Would it be worth the extra 50 grand, somehow I doubt it!!

Cheers

Jason

Read the latest a magazine Annual and they would like you to believe so. Its unreal what a few sponsorship $ from boat manufacturers and ETEC can do these days. I think Quintrex and Yamaha may need to get a bigger cheque book if they want to make it into next issue

thanks for all the info guys, i am sure glass is a far better ride than anything but my problem with it is i tow my boat to dundee a lot and also fish 4 mile and corroboree a fair bit as well so glass is a no go. the other problem with the long boats is they all seem very narrow and dont have high sides. 2rods came and seen me at work on friday and threw the idea of a poly boat out there so now im really unsure. i think ill have to really suss it all out but so far the formosa seems the best bang for buck. thanks to those offering a look and ride in their rigs and when im ready i hope the offer can still be taken up on. one last thing i will do is get it coloured in the COWBOYS rl coulours just to show up the little bro (baramatta)
