Re: Big arse fuel tank

Post by balou »

We do afew big trips a year and I been thinking of way to carry extra fuel. I have 210l under the floor and usually carry 5 jerrys or when I find a 60l drum we use 2 jerrycans.

We been kicking around the idea of getting big fuel bladder for our next trip but thought it be difficult to move on boat. I don't think I could move 100l bladder from the bow and then lift it onto the gunnels to syphon out. Are you guys using fuel pumps?

My mate 545 boat has 100l bolted to his casting deck. Fully loaded with gear and beers it pushes the bow down until the front tank empty. It changes the ride significantly as the motor sits a lot higher In the water.

Guys I know who use bladders run an extra fuel manifold tap and have a quick disconnect on that with fuel line to the bladder and quick disconnect on the bladder end as well. Then just use the bladder first.

Sticking with the cheap and cheerful (if you suck enough fumes) method)

An update to this post, I got a tank made by George at NT Unique. It ticks all the boxes and is removable so I can keep it out of the boat most of the year. Capacity is 232L, so should hold 200. Cheers George!

That's a lot of weight up from of the boat but you will get to Timor box now . Haha

A lot better than carting jerrys around

200 in that plus 77 underfloor would be 650km in OK conditions. Always space for a couple of jerries on the back step too...
