The boys and i landed around 50 fish in the Finniss last year - awesome - couldnt get moving on a trollling run without one of the lures getting crunched - more often than the other lures would get hooked up before they got into the boat. This trip was in the Finniss last year.
Had a couple of other memorable trips - one in the Finniss fresh and another in the shady fresh
Plenty of slow days in between though!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last May in the Little Finniss we managed to hook 10 Barra and more Salmon in an hours forey, we left them biting as we had to get back to Dundee to catch the tractor for retrieval. Had about 60cm under the boat and lots of crocs eyeing us of as we left the mouth. Was a great hour's fishing just wish we had of got there a little earlier. Not large fish but most around 70cm but we let most go only keeping a couple, they would hit soft plastics and hard bodies all within a kilometre of the mouth. Will give the Little Finniss another try this year.

Re: what's the best barra session you've ever had??
Have had a few days of over 100 fish. find it hard to beleive you could catch more tham this number in a day. I have been absolutely demolished by time we have boated this number. I give up and try to find more spots or different fish. Port hurd was crazy when the fish farm penns rolled a few years back but I dont really count that as real barra fishing. Once in a lifetime events and not everyone gets a shot at it. No ability to find them.
Best days I have had have been at the Daly and Finniss for the simple fact that the size of the fish. Have had one session in the Finniss that we boated more then 100 fish and not one was under 75cm. Mate boated a 95cm as the biggest but we got dusted a few times from having week hooks from releasing a lot of fish on them and using the pliers to repeatedly bend them back into shape before hooking the bigger ones.
Have had a 3 hour session on the Daly where we boated 48 fish and the smallest was 70cm and the biggest 105cm. Got 4 over the meter and 9 in the 90's.
Great when it happens but have spent a whole lot of time and money to achieve it.
Lots of smaller fish sessions but again not special like when you get into a school of big fish. Still good fun.

Little Moyle 1990 in my first year up here. Mate was working at Keats. First barra and lure fishing ever. Tide was low and you could see them smimming along the edges. Simply a matter of holding the rod out further to get the lures in range. Absolutely unreal. Had no idea that this area was literally untouched and thought it would be this easy everywhere else.

Re: what's the best barra session you've ever had??
ive never caught anywere near the amount of barra that you guys have caught in a day...infact i think the most ive ever caught in a day would be 3 fish.but THIS year i spent 5 days fishing up a feeder creek at kab looking for a huge fish.i lost the first two cause they were just too good for me to land( I NEED ALOT OF LUCK UP THESE CREEKS !!) ... in the 5 days i only had3 barra hits but it was worth every mossie bite and mangoe scratch i copped to land a monster...i normally dont get into the measuring and weighing of fish and i didnt want to harm the fish but i roughly measured it at 129 cm......i can only imagine what it would be like to catch so many fish in a day but it also feels great when a fishing plan comes together.!!!!
you have to have crack even if your just pissin in the wind

Re: what's the best barra session you've ever had??
Had a cracker of a day at hardies 18 months ago, In the 2 hours between noon and 2pm we trolled up and boated 16 fish (and lost a few others) between 73 and 91cm! Had a mate up from Victoria that day and he still talks about it. Rest assured I have fished that same spot prob 20 times since for the odd fish but nothing like that one faithful day when the fish gods were smiling
Just remember if all else fails "try like F##K" !!!!!!!

My 14yo nephew from south pulled a 53cm last week. You should have heard him. Yelling about how poop the Murray is with only carp in the last couple of years, yet he comes up here & gets a barra plus a hammerhead in a couple of hours. It was absolute gold. Definitely his best barra (first) session ever. He's organising a trip back up for the wet without mum & dad already.

Re: what's the best barra session you've ever had??
Had some awesome sessions at the Shady barrage at night years ago about 30 fish each on the high tide at night -average size 75cm-biggest 99.5cm and had a session on a billabong in kakadu where four of us got about 140 fish for the day, but the best day was at buff creek when I got my biggest barra on my second cast-116cm then went home!(and it was a real lure caught barra too)

36 Barra from Corrob a couple years back. Nothing huge, biggest was 75cm and only about 3 where under size i think. Also managed 16 Toga for the day as well. Went a bought a fly rod after that for a bit more of a challenge, still haven't used it!!

Caught over 100 fish up to 78cm in Teemburra Dam back when i lived in Mackay.
Since ive been in the NT, had a few good Billabong session in Kakadu, but for no real size.
Still haven't cracked the metre mark in the Salt, when that finally happens, it will be my best Barra session.

We boated 55 (50 in one session) over 2 days a few weeks back at Yellow Water. Mostly rats with the biggest going 66. The best fun though. None of us had had a session like that before, and thought it was just one of those things you read about.

Shady Fresh a couple of years ago. Fish a cast (or hook up at least) on poppers fishing solo. Lasted for 2 hours before Id had enough and left them going hard. Hit the jackpot that day.
Was better than any runoff sessions Ive had, except the fish were not as big. Biggest that day was 77cm I think.

Shady Fresh off the back of the ute 3 years ago.
Took my girl barra fishing for the first time. She caught a 56, a 64 and a 75cm barra. She still smiles every time she talks about it.
I love seeing people catch their first barra...

Its not a crisis unless there is blood around.
If there is blood around......well its a police matter...
