Saw heaps of action out the mouth of the Elizabeth river the other day queenies, salmon, small trevally and barra all busting up in massive schools of jelly prawns. we tried about ten different lures n got one bite which jumped n then straightened out the tiny doa prawns hook.
Anyone got any tips on good lures /tactics to get a few barra in the esky when they're are being fussy eaters ????
BTW we got a nice one in the cast net before it ripped it to bits...
a few swearwords filled the air before we called it quits and outran a massive rain squall back to the ramp.
Theres a few prawns in the pic..
All around 50mm long.
Even though we caught nothing it was still better than going to work or doing the bl..dy mowing.

Re: Barra eating small prawns
Cheers fellas.
Gonna try anons tip.
I'll give the gulps a run next trip. or try the old sage fly rod too after i dust the cobwebs off it.
Found schools of mullet too about 100mm long but only pelagics chasing after them the barra n salmon were set on a feed of prawns.....
If it was easy everyone would be doing it hey.
I'll let you know how we go on my next set of days off.
Hopefully we get more rain soon too. So the bait can stay on the floodplains n grow a bit in the daly. Then I'll just go out there instead.
