Well, while we are at it, Howard set up the great real estate debacle with his policies. So they were all duds.

Gough was the last good one :D

Hate to burst your bubble there Matt, but Whitlam was responsible for recognising China which would ultimately lead to politicians selling off all our resources for chump change so we can by it back as over priced second rate goods. So he is out too.

Gough was a leader and statesman who tried to do too much, too quickly. Enormous intellect and capacity to introduce change.

Bit like Joh BP he was surrounded by dunderheads and opportunists.

Have a good look at the detail of the apparent about-face by the Turncoat circus.

Publicly the Govt has dropped the clean energy target and the subsidies.

Sounds good so far?

Well, no it isn't.

Whilst dropping the clean energy target from IT'S public energy policy, the Govt has simply hidden the CET in one of the conditions being applied to Aus's electricity energy suppliers.

The Govt will not allow the energy suppliers to accept electricity from generating bodies that do not meet a certain clean energy target. And guess what that target is?

Yep. The very same one that has caused them all the angst.

How stupid does this Govt think people are? Sheer arrogance.

And guess who supports the Turncoat Govt's apparent about-face?

Blackout Bill and the ALP!

Ya know something smells when Bill supports it.

What's that old saying. When the neighbour starts quoting the scriptures is the time to count your cattle.

There is NOTHING that Turnbull and his cabinet will not do to cling to Govt. They're desperate.

Would be great if everything could be put to a public vote using our mobile phones, but it might end up something like Idiocracy ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwZ0ZUy7P3E

Nah, Luke.

At 38 you've still got a few years to go before you starting thinking about the endless stream of activists who have gone past over the years all mouthing their versions of how the rest of the country should be living their lives.

They're accompanied by the politicians who are clamouring for activist support at the ballot box.

As political fortunes and voters concerns wax and wane, so does the influence of the activists. Balance of power in the parliament stuff.

Currently its all out of balance with the activist minority having influence on gutless political parties. That'll change as the public's attention changes.

At the moment its all save the planet stuff but its starting to wane.

Suddenly, the public has found out that this save the planet stuff is costing a lot more than they thought it would.

Its impacting directly on household finances now and not just some ideological theory to worry about in the future.

Both of the major political parties are sucking up to these greenie activists who are being joined by more and more of the looney fringe who have spotted opportunity to further their particular cause.

The politically correct brigade, the morally correct brigade, the ABC as the voice of all of them, the gay brigade....the list goes on.

Whilst believing that these whackos are entitled to their opinions, I resent having those views thrust down my throat. THAT'S the issue as I see it.

There are 2 more serious and immediate issues that should be addressed (but aren't adequately) being poverty and problems in indigenous communities.

Australians are lucky that the majority of its people live a pretty good life. A whole lot better than most in the world.

But we do have a some real problems in common with the 3rd world.

We need to be concentrating more on the real and present ones and less on the supposed important distractions.

That's my view about the mess Aus seems to have gotten itself into. Too many latte-induced distractions.

Will my view change anything?

No it wont but all I can do is express it and hope it causes others to think a bit.

Nah, Luke.

I think that we've got too many latte-induced distractions in our country.

We also have a dysfunctional parliamentary system in its current form.

Save the planet, politically correctness and gay issues are being thrust down society's throat by both major political parties sucking up to the fringe elements promoting these issues in exchange for electoral favour.

There's a place in a free society for these things but forcing them onto the majority by a weak parliamentary system isn't it.

Australians live a very good lifestyle compared with the rest of the world. A lucky country indeed.

However, there are still a couple of 3rd world issues in Aus that are flying under the radar and not being addressed adequately.

I guess there are no votes in poverty or indigenous problems in adjusting to a changing world.

Vulnerability to manipulation of our political party system has contributed to the mess.

Why does poverty exist in Australia?

Combine poverty with problems in the indigenous population there's a double whammy.

I guess I simply resent opportunistic activists and promoters of fashionable issues along with weak political parties who suck up to them (pretending that they're not).

Opportunistic distractions and political weakness are starting to impact significantly on Aus society. The country is divided a lot more than it used to be. Not just simple political divisions but social divisions as well.

That's my view of what's going on Luke.

Will my view make any difference?

If I don't express it, it certainly won't.

If I do express it then the best I can hope for is to maybe cause somebody to think a bit more.

That's my view

Like I said, get up there and have a crack... Whilst I don’t disagree with some of your waffle, most of it is just over-analyzed, conspiracy theory rubbish.

Maybe some people think that there's more to life than getting around blinkered in their own little world being negative about everything outside it.

But that's easily fixed, Luke. Put me on your ignore list like I've done for you.

Interesting twist on global warming ... http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-12-30/s ... ld/9294088

Unfortunately it's not a contradiction ... severe cold snaps have been predicted as part of the AGW process, but people are not understanding this going by the comments ... https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/cap ... 9#comments

Overall temperature trend is the key.

Global floods and extreme rainfall events have surged by more than 50% this decade, and are now occurring at a rate four times higher than in 1980, according to a new report.

Stats like this annoy me when the raw data isn't provided. Are we talking about 2 events becoming 3 or are we talking about 100 events becoming 150?
