my oldest boy would be half way to bali by the time I got back to the ramp.

Youngest does broggies while waiting.........providing there's no other boat around, he'd be popular bouncing a big fibreglass on the ramp, not

Those launching having right of way over those who are retrieving? Sounds a bit silly to me - especially up here in the Territory as PeterT has stated. Ok when you have zero tides and nice pontoons to tie up on. I haven't taught the missus to reverse the trailer yet, so I always leave her to hold the boat while I get the car. Several times now, some pr..k thinks that they can jump the queue just before I reverse down. She has had to drag the boat to the edge of the ramp. This isn't always easy, when the wind is blowing (e.g. East Arm) and the tide is coming in.
From experience up here, and from reading the stories on Fishnet about southern state ramps, I think most people are quite courteous, and know what they are doing most of the time.

ramps

Used to see some great stuffups on the Dundee ramp before the rock wall was built - I vaguely remember being stuck between the half buried tyres with a boat on top of me once, only for a few seconds thankfully.

And I took a wave over the back of a 3.9m dinghy there and it half filled her up. Ouch!
