G'day AM. it was about 50/50 in terms of the decision making process I reckon between the money and the environment.

I've certainty saved myself a ton of money over the last three years in power bills. I was luckily enough to apply for a government energy efficiency grant and only paid 50% of the installation cost. I just received my latest bill from Power and Water and was actually in credit which was a shock :)

In terms of environmental impacts although solar panels do require a great amount of energy up front, they do have a very short energy payback time and over their lifespan have a very small lifetime emission profile compared to other forms of power.

At least 1 big player is having a crack up here as a responsibility corporate citizen and making changes.

Can't say much for the other newer mob. They receive fuel oil from a 200m ship about once a fortnight.

There is ample credible evidence that climate change is NOT the result of increased CO2 levels caused by increased generation.

The earth has a natural "washout" system for CO2 via plants. The lungs of the earth.

Increased measured CO2 levels will indeed be found if the washout process is reduced. The loss of trees.

It's not solely that the CO2 generation has increased more. Its that the earth's ability to convert it has been REDUCED. THAT will result in greater imbalance between generation and wash-out resulting in apparent increase in measured CO2 levels.

And who is contributing most to the reducing ability to "wash" the CO2 out? The tree harvesters. SE Asia and S America are the prime visible offenders but not the only ones.

So, do we tell these developing countries to stop cutting down trees? Do we hammer THEIR governments about it expecting their citizens to "stop the chop"?

No, we don't but we do a lot of "tut tutting" via the UN. THAT'LL fix it.

I know how bl..dy Bob Brown and his convoy would get on in Indonesia or S America. Getting run over by a horse would be the least of their worries. After he's finished in Indonesia and Brazil, I'm sure that Bob and his friends would be welcomed with open arms in Russia, India, China and the US.

Cutting back emissions is just one side of mitigation activities and we're already doing that.

So... the loss of plant life is NOT being addressed and THAT has an equally significant part IF you believe that CO2 is the problem.

So sic 'em Bob. Go over there and tell them how to live their lives like your mob is doing in Aus. See how long these other places would tolerate your greenie ratbag ways.

There is more credible evidence that the Milankovic obliquity cycle has even more effect than anything else.

As the earth becomes more vertical in its lean, different parts of the surface are exposed or shielded to radiation from the sun. Some will experience more radiation and some will experience less radiation.

The parts with less radiation will cool and the parts with more radiation will warm. THE CLIMATE WILL CHANGE. WHAT A SURPRISE!

I'm just sick to death of the hand-wringers bleating about the end of the earth and treating "non-believers" as witches who should be burned at the stake as sacrifices to the clean energy gods. "

Can just see the footpath café conversation in Sydney now (Warringah electorate) now......………"Surely there's something else we can complain about and force people to agree with us. I'll have another latte' please".

Its medieval behaviour that these guys are pedaling from their little ivory towers in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hobart and Adelaide.

Sorry guys.

I've deliberately kept away from this thread but looked in a moment of weakness.
