Headed down to Plug and Nilsie creeks down past Freddys bend on Thursday... cheaper than a lap down the Daly thats for sure...

Good colour changes were evident at a few outlets below the bridge like at Scotts creek and the Harrison Dam creek, but the trip was a complete doughnut fest fish wise. . . Not even a hit.

Bugger all bait only a couple of mullet and a few tiny little archer fish and gars around for miles. Didn't even hear a boof all day. Bit of a worry as to where the bait is nowadays with our half arsed attempt at runoff conditions ATM ?????

I also wasn't able to locate much decent sized bait on a massive 100km plus lap down the front last week from up cape hothams creeks above SWA nearly up to to melacca either ???? Just tiny jelly prawns, which was also a bit of a worry...

Anybody else been out that way lately and even seen a few schools of mullet. ... there was thousands of them up the top near Marrakai and Beatrice creeks a few months back but I haven't seen any lately. :?

Did spot a few massive drifting logs on this adventure with just a tiny bit above the surface to hit . . . so be a little bit cautious if you go out there on a lap.

Especially if you are running it at race pace with lightbar and spotties at night time to get to the spot first ! :|

Also as a laugh for the people at home nice and dry I got absolutely bl..dy smashed by a massive storm for 20min. With a bit of under a second crack, boommm nice and close lightning out there too on the floodplains as the leading edge rolled into the river. I then outran a 2nd drenching later on to avoid a repeat of earlier on retriving the tinny just as the first drops began to fall.

So.... for a change I had one of those trips that not too many fellas post about. But still, just getting out there was fun, and you still learn and see something new every trip.

Aswell as getting drenched, nearly struck by lightning, freezing cold and no fish I did manage to get a bit quality GOPRO footage for on the couch with a few mates round to laugh about it all another day. Their housings are rated to 60m so they work fine in a tropical downpour especially if you rain x the glass lens area. ...:drinking8:

I was pretty glad I'd packed the raincoat and spare clothes though.

Thanks mate nothing wrong with a post without fish. Good to know how the river is fairing. Allways gets me how savage the storms and lightning are down that way this time of year.

Cheers grumpy

Top pics.

That stretch is always the same for me and I reckon one day, I'm just going to grab a carton or two and just troll from the bridge to the mouth and back.

We got to some of our land based spots up stream from Goat Island last weekend and there were plenty of logs and rafts of bamboo starting to move but no bait to be seen either. A decent rain should see it a mine field of debris soon.

No fish but still fun.

Had same experience a few weeks ago down there. The only thing I caught was a nice breeze from Kai's fans while downing a cold one & eating a burger on Goat Island!
Saw heaps of arches on the sounder up and down the main river upstream from the bridge but trolled all day for nothing. We ran in to some small Barra feeding on the edge of Beatrice creek but couldn't get a bite and I think they were only eating jelly prawns as we didn't see any mullet anywhere. Did score a few decent cherabin in the pots (dry dog food & chook pellet mix worked well) but by mid afternoon the clouds/thunder we're rolling in so we chucked the cherabin back & called it a day. Didnt fancy testing out the ability of my rods/Bimini poles to conduct electricity!

Hopefully the big rains this week help get things moving...

Last 2 days there's been a few Crimson finches playing around, but no nest building started yet. River temp up this way gone from 33+ to below 27 in a week, now back around 29 again, makes it hard for you poor suckers who thinks fishing is important. Total rain here about 150mm since 26/1, but more next week, FOR SURE. Kai.

Check out the river height gauges in BOM couple of newish ones up the top of the Adelaide. River going up and down like a pair of whores draws.

I Agree Grumpy, But... Only 2-300 mm fairly quickly will make any 'threathening difference'. All good. BUT, more rain comming. Kai.
