Post Posted: Wed Oct 05, 2016 8:20 am    Post subject: East Melville

Hi all,
This is my first post.
Am doing a trip up the East coast of Melville in November.
Was wondering How close to the shore would be the the best for fishing goodies.
Have heard that really close in is good, but is really close 2 klm or 500 metres.
Can anyone advise is the best fishing once you get past Condor point?
Cheers

If by 'East Coast' you mean the stretch between Gambier & Soldier Pts, yeah, in my experience I rarely fish Goldies outside 2km from the coast - and in most instances within 500m.

Couldn't say that categorically - like most Goldie fishing marks, they fish hot & cold.
I've had insane sessions back SW of Condor towards Gambier on scrappy, nothing looking ground with a couple of tiny impressions only showing on the sounder, in 4ft of water - and returned for 4 consecutive trips for nada!!
You really do just gotta do the miles and fish everything that looks half like it might hold fish - generally rubbly area - and just keep persisting and hope to get lucky on a couple of good bites.
I used to chase Goldies a lot up around Soldier Pt and have marks up there that are close to fail proof - but with the distance needed to travel, and the anal fukced-up possession limits we have to endure now, I'm not prepared to travel the distance for 3 poxy fish!!
I reckon Condor is highly overrated and over fished - Cape Keith can produce on tide changes and particularly night time & early morning.
For me the bonus of that coast is the numerous innocuous creeks that u can have lots of fun in chasing barra, jacks, salmon - albeit all limited tidal access.

Best of luck

Cheers guys, we are going all the way round to Tinganoo bay on the way to Cape Don.
So although the creeks are off limits will still have a good look along the coast.

I was referring more to the creeks between Condor & Keith, and to a lesser extent back west of Condor.

I was under the impression however that the coastline in general was now off limits north of Soldier Point,
which includes Tinganoo Bay ? - (not that it's worried me too much)

The entire coast is still open, despite the map produced by the Tiwi land council however all the creeks in the red zone are off limits from the mouth of each landwards.

boradi & tinganoo bays are still allowed to be fished but the restriction starts just on the north tip of tinganoo bay... good jewy and goldy spots around conder point

That's not accurate though with reference to the red lines along the coast.

Pretty sure the first bay with red lines is quanapirri... Which sux arse as it's probably the best place I have ever fished... Used to fish up there with my old boy before all this bullshit started...

Well that clears it up, looks like all the creeks and coast on East side are still open to fishing.
Will give them all a look. I fished the creek in Cobram bay 20 yeras ago but haven't fished around there since, have cruised past several time but this trip we have set aside a day to check it out.
Thanks for your posts
