Years ago I was trolling a river with a mate in a 12ft tinny, we both went to sleep, sitting upright, and slowly trolled into the bank.

Still have a giggle about it today.

Does this happen a lot or am I just sleepy?

Funny you mention North Gutter Jeff, that's the only other place I recall dozing off while trolling, during a billfish comp.

Your journey sounds epic, if you had a pillow you could have made the Tiwis.

Good thing we don't fly planes.

And before anyone says anything this was before gas tankers and moored oil rigs ... hardly a soul out there then.

North Gutter is a bit hypnotic for sailfish ... zzzzz ... good thing Dundee is producing the goods.

I have had to ask a deckie to drive the last 30 mins back from the rig as I was falling asleep.
My head has dropped off my shoulders a few times driving back towards the Finniss to anchor up for after getting our bag of Jewover night.

It's getting up early that does it, and a beer or two, and heat. Have to have a thermos of strong coffee.

I was doing a solo trip trolling Leaders in the build up and I woke up as my motor started to chew into the mud bank on the way out of the creek mouth. The 102 barra woke me up shortly after though

I cant beat that Jeff

Hahahah my mate did a 720 at sampan on dusk. The 2 deckies we’re passed out and the skipper only close one eye at a time. We had tangles that bad we had cut all 3 reel less then 30-40m from the spool.

Luck we were miles out and were woken up by waves come over the bow.

Coming back through the McArthur after a big day on the water.
Skipper was navigating nicely through the bends but seemed to have micro-naps every couple of minutes only to jolt upright after each event.
On the last occasion, the head slumped down while we were travelling at near full noise
I gently took over the steering wheel and took us through the next five miles of winding river.
Skip slowly wakes up still grabbing hold of the wheel and acts as if nothing happened.

He bought the beers that night :drinking1:

That's hilarious, hope it doesn't happen on Jumbo jets, or maybe better if it does!
