Always carry long sleeve clothes, torch, and extra food and beer. I had a really close call on the South Aligator. I was sound asleep in the cabin (deckies turn to drive) when the boat stopped dead. I looked out and saw another boat just a few meters also hopelessly stranded. I ordered everyone out of the boat and with 400kg less payload she actually started to float. The sand on that bar was like quick sand under our feet. As we pushed the boat we sunk to our knees. After a few very tense minutes we managed to get back into the channel and wave goodbye to the other boys who were now well and truly high and dry. I am gonna carry a mozzie net in the boat from now on. Actually on that trip I had a generator, fans, swags, plenty of food and enough beer for another 24hours so we would have been all good. I do reflect and wonder how many lizards were watching us as we stood dick deep in iced coffee coloured water pushing the boat.

I only work to support my fishing habit

Yep, you only have to read Hawkeye's old post when he was stung by a ray after wading 20ft in Shoal Bay, and the hell he went through.

And if you've ever had a bull shark smash a barra at full noise, it makes you think twice about dirty water ...
