bad motorguide

Post by john d »

Went for a quick fish yesterday over charles way.
Upon arrival at our first spot the motorguide anchor spot lock went crazy.
It just turned in circles tangling up the cable. :banghead:
No mater what I done it would not fix.
have it connected to sounder thru nmea cable and tried disconnecting from that but still done the same thing.
Anyone else had a this problem and if so how did you fix it.
I will be stripping it down and checking connections and dismantling the nmea system to clean and check all connections.
Any how fished well yesterday moved around a bit and the decky cried his heart out as i made him go old school with a genuine anchor.
He hasnt pulled an anchor for a couple of years, frign tears every where.
Managed 4 good goldies, one went 55, cod and some big stripies for the morning.
Just dodged a big storm on the way back and got into the harbor about 2.
Found schools of tuna out from larrakiyah but they were very flighty.
Decky got one but after a good fight lost it at the boat, more tears.
East arm ramp was busy when we got there as everyone was waiting for the tide to get to the pontoons.
Reckon it will be chaos there over easter.
Sorry no picks this time

Mine did that. It was still under warranty so I took it back. Think they ended up replacing the mother board

Googled the cr.p out of it and I might be lucky.
I have to re calibrate the compass and angle to see if that fixes the problem.
If not will have to contact motorguide.
Does anyone know who can fix these units in Darwin.
Not keen to send interstate at the moment

I had a similar problem some years ago. I recall just recalibrating and it was fine. Boatland used to sell and repair them. I assume they still do. I eventually got the sh*ts with mine and sold it and bought a Minn Kota. Within 12 months I had to replace the mother board!!!
