Talisman Sabre - Fog Bay defence exercise this weekend

Talk about bungled boat ramps, net buybacks, marine no-go zones, mining disasters etc here.

Talisman Sabre - Fog Bay defence exercise this weekend

Post by tristan.sloan »

For fishermen heading out to Dundee this weekend please be aware of military activities in the area

Operation Talisman Sabre Fog Bay 5-22 July

For safety, boat operators are requested to remain at least 500m clear of all military ships and vessels and to avoid loitering within the vicinity of beach sites utilised by military craft.

Military operations will not prevent access to the Dundee Lodge boat ramp.

Boat access to Launceston, Madford and Tahlee Inlets is unaffected.

During the exercise, military ships and vessels will operate in the vicinity of Fog Bay and beach sites at Native Point and Stingray Head.

Military landing craft will be heavily loaded, operate at high speed and are limited in their ability to avoid collision close to shore.

Info was sent directly to us from the Department of Defence this morning.

There will be considerable military traffic on the water this weekend Dave and the DOD wants to ensure minimal disruption is caused to recreational fishermen.

Yes really...
Just found it strange that it takes afant to get this info out there..
I haven't seen or heard it anywhere else.
Especially seeing that DOD are requesting exclusion zones..!?
Marine branch, nt police etc etc blah blah etc aren't saying anything etc..

Be interesting to see if the zones are policed... They usually are.

Ok, mistook your comment as a go at afant for providing info.
i agree that the cops etc should have made it public knowledge and that it should have been done much before now. leaving it til the last minute is just not on.

you wont have to worry about being policed, the yanks will be all over it

I've heard it mentioned on the ABC a number of times in the lead up. They had a couple of interviews with the bloke running it at different times about 2 weeks ago.

They have been very quiet about it to be honest guys, we were told intensive exercises would be undertaken this weekend a month ago but they were very reluctant to provide any details to us until I made several phone calls on Friday....still better late than never
