A bit unusual to have a GPS card and no GPS. Any way what ever you reckon.

Re: Proposed new NT fishing regulations
here we go again! I've said it before, the solution to fishining sustainability is simple! Unless you were born in the NT, lived here continuously for 25 years or more, or have children born here you cannot fish NT waterways! No touros, no blow ins, ha ha! How great would it be!!! Yes I know, I'm a genius!!! Probably toss out the live baiters as well just for extra insurance...

Will try not to call you names Cuddles even though i would like too.
Your story has changed now. At first it was all you buddies in fisheries giving you inside info and now that inside info is nothing specific.
At first it was an average of 30 boats EVERY DAY in March and April and now its up to sixty boats on good tides and in favourable conditions and as low as 10 boats in bad tides or bad weather.
Most of what you say is educated is just cr.p as far as I can see. And you shouldn't cloud the water with your dribble because your not helping the cause at all

Your more than intitled to your oppinion.
Lorna shoals was the same as Dundee 10 years ago. Now you struggle to catch fish there.
When any where near darwin and dundee get flogged out because you wont cut back a couple of fish each from a trip then we will see your oppinion change. Best of luck.

With the laws in place as they stand now:
What if every single fish caught, kept or released be accounted for during march and aprill by rec fisherman in chambers bay be noted. Tally the figures. Note the number kept and taken out of the system. Include size of fish. Then make a note of released fish because this does impact also as not all fish survive release. So take a percentage of that figure. Look at by catch numbers like salmon, Powertail and shark species also.
Then monitor every single net placed in the same system. Every pro boat working the reefs out front. Note the exact same.
Then compare the 2 types of fishing pressure to then make a better informed step for the future.
On a side note I would like to see real fotage of what comes out of a pro net or trawl net and ask have fisheries ever gone out on trips to see what impact if any these boats do first hand?

Re: Proposed new NT fishing regulations
I have first hand experience and I can tell you it is shocking how many juvenile jewies get scooped up by prawn trawlers- particuly in fog bay. Also the amount of mature specimens that get caught and thrown back dead. Its a waste . Its not the fisherman thowing back dead fish cause they dont want them either , its because they arent allowed to have them! How is that protecting the fish ? Even if its dead and a bycatch you must return them to the water!- My old skipper was told by fisheries that if he wanted to eat fish while hes at sea then he must buy it from the shop!!! He told them ..well I cant write what he told them but you get the idea. Prawn trawlers smash the juvenile fish population and if you think the new measures they use help ie-fish eyes eliminate bycatch think again!

Don't get me wrong
I am all for tighter regulations for recreational fisherman in most cases expecially Jewfish.
I just take exception too a goose like you making up dribble cause you think you have an idea.

Oh and Lorna was stilled f.....d 10 years ago you should have seen it 25 years ago when there was only one charter operater of note. If the current bunch were like him we would have a lot less of a problem.

Out of all the banter between us this is the only statement of mine you have chosen to challenge. Judging by your remark you obviously know something that i don't. I am going home to slash my wrists now because I wouldn't have thought you would know more than a plank of wood quite Frankly.

Re: Proposed new NT fishing regulations
I only challenge your statement because you challenge everyone I make wether it be right or wrong and went into personel attacks rather then keep it to the subject. Like I said much earlier mine is a personel observation and not exact scientific fact but I have done a lot of research to put into practice with my best guestimates. I guess I made the mistake of pushing it towards Doug in the blog instead of letting him and you make up your own minds.
At the end of the day we both agree that fish stocks need help and that it would be a good idea to place a seasonal closure on the falling Jew population. Lets just call it quits and leave it at that for the sake of the discussion paper. You can have your oppinion ill stick to mine and I will appologise for pushing it towards anybody.
Have a merry Christmas!
