Construction Tender for Shady Camp Boat Ramp Released

Talk about bungled boat ramps, net buybacks, marine no-go zones, mining disasters etc here.

Greg is right about the island too. Another little one is forming to the left of the big one and bl..dy shallow until you hit the channel. Boat ramp needs to be put next to the island really or we may need dredging and not sure how they do that in a place like shady.

I know this sounds like a previous election commitment.
But I think this would please a lot more fisho's than this.

Has the decision been made? Or could they be persuaded.
How does an afant member have a say towards these decisions?

Mick I would encourage you to come to the AGM this coming sunday and pose any questions you may have to the Minister.

Be nice if the NT Fisheries Ministers dropped in here from time to time to comment on important matters. They could get valuable feedback.

Even if they just introduced themselves.

Who's this new bloke, does he chase barra or pelagics, does he go crabbing, has he got a boat?

Save the money and keep the place's charm by forming a usable ramp with the right angle, depth and size of rock ....and out of the raging flow. Anything to Keswick beach launch standard would be awesome. With the money saved they can address:
- tide window by dredging silted up area.
- somewhere to tie up your boat for solo launchers or family that can't assist the launch, retrieve.
- the mass fish kill that occurs each year due to the barrage
-create structure (barge of rocks, large timber etc) to spread the fishing pressure
-fish restocking to counteract and justify the gov allowing (encouraging) the place to be flogged. 10k , 100K annually at the right size for starters.
Spend the money on dundee, it needs it more.

Pretty sure Gary Higgins, up until recently owned the Mango Farm, so I reckon he'd know his way around a fish.....

Hey Tristan
Has the plans changed for the shady ramp. I have heard from two different people that it's going to be down stream about 3 kms near the island. Seen a picture of where the works have started and cleared mangroves.
It's great news if it is the case, just wanted to touch base to see what the new plans are now. Everything I had seen was it was going to be build at the barrage

So what were the pictures of works and mangrove clearing? Has someone been clearing mangroves?

Is there is a private ramp going in? Could be a good money spinner.

Thank you for the photo theodosius. Are there any comments on the photo regarding the reason for the clearing?

I believe that Melaleuca Station is on the land (NT POR 2708) adjacent to Sampan Creek. I've done what little research I'm capable of and can't find any reported Projects on the NT EPA website.

https://ntepa.nt.gov.au/environmental-a ... t-projects
https://ntepa.nt.gov.au/environmental-a ... s-assessed

I wonder if approval has been granted for the removal of mangroves (if approval is required at all).

I'd forgive them if they let us put a ramp there too. Wouldn't bother me if it was just a seasonal dirt road there (for now) can always launch where we do now anyway. But it's crazy to spend any money where it is now. Won't give a greater launch window, and the ramp now is easy to use, and can launch 3 or some times 4 wide. If they were to put a pontoon there it would make it a little safer.

G'day mickkk,

The project design has come in over budget by about $900k. AFANT is discussing funding options with the Government including alternative locations. If the Government proceeds with the current design with increased funding construction will not start until the dry season next year.
