AFANT recreational fishing member survey

Talk about bungled boat ramps, net buybacks, marine no-go zones, mining disasters etc here.

AFANT recreational fishing member survey

Post by tristan.sloan »

Hi Guys,

The Amateur Fishermen's Association of the NT would like to ask the opinion of their members and recreational fishermen in deciding priorities and future actions to improve recreational fishing opportunities in the Northern Territory. This survey can be accessed by clicking on the link below.

Definitely needs the options to.take the nets out Of NT waters. But that required balls and hard work

I think their strategy of continuing to keep pushing them further and further afield is not a bad one. No gov will totally wipe out an industry in one swipe, but by working on individual areas, it will get to the point where either enough fish will return to the system and fishos will not have to keep going further and further to get a fish, or it will become more and more un viable for the commercial fishos and be happier to sell their licenance back.
But I do agree it should be a long term goal to get rid of all the netters.

Agreed, but pushing them further and further out of sight is not that smart though...

Concentrate on getting rid of people and business that want to buy fish then they won't be netting them. It can never be stopped while there is a market.

Maybe there should also be a survey for non-members.

good survey , I still done it as a non member (used to be)

Looks like a good attack plan , but half the points didn't interest
me as I very rarely fish these areas .

Net licence holder at the Limmen Bight River told me he wants to sell, he says has been wanting to sell for some time.

Cheers guys, AFANT is currently looking at removing commercial fishing from coopers creek in the east alligator through the Fisheries Barra management advisory committee.

Even if your not an AFANT member I would encourage you to take part in the survey
