I hope you're right about the batteries Blinky cause I've just bought and installed two of them. I've also set up a Minn Kota mv210a charger in the boat. This one is connected to each battery and charges them individually. All seems to be working ok so far.

All I know mate, is that I have an MSDC31 battery with a megacycle200 sticker on the side (which seems to cause knickers to get all twisted up). As far as the Minn Kota charger goes, this is the second one that I've had that has failed and caused me grief, I'm not giving them a third chance........

Yep going for the CTek, just undecided which model..........I have three batteries with a VSR between each. I had an Anderson plug on the charger lead, just plug it directly into the boat and switch the Batt switch to position 1, the way I understand how it works; the start battery is charged first, then the VSR allows the house to be charged and finally the Ipilot battery is charged. This info and a wiring diagram was supplied by BEP, the manufacturers of the Batt switch and VSR's by the way.

But...no doubt if I'm wrong someone will be more than happy to tell me all about it..........

Go a separate plug for each battery, if doing them all at once through the VSR then each individual batteries needs will get "blended" into one. The whole benefit of the C-Tek is the analyzing function that the charger has, if a particular battery need more burn charge, or trickle charge, this will get missed and as a group your batteries will not get the benefit of the good charger. The tails that are hard wired to the batteries are not that expansive, well worth the trouble.

Thanks George, is there a way I can have all three on "maintain charge" at once or do I need to do each battery individually? Please excuse my ignorance, I don't profess to be a battery "expert"

Ive always used projecta chargers starting out with a 3500A charge & maintain job which from memory was 90 bucks & I got 7 years out of 2 x d/cycle + 1 crank battery ,now using a Projecta Pro Charge 3 stage 21 amp which was under 200 bucks online.

Blinky,Ive just always left my isolator switch open (all batteries) & let the charger maintain the lot at once & havnt had a problem although Ive been told if you've got a crook battery you can stuff the others this way, someone who knows more about all things batteries may ya or na that.

I've gone completely off the system I had with the VSR's between each battery......... Been speaking with a guy at NQWTT about a Sterling Power "Pro Split R" which he tells me is the go for charging multiple banks of batteries. The Pro Split R senses the needs of each battery and distributes charge as required as opposed to the VSR just opening and allowing full charge to go through to each battery.
Apparently my system, while was not the number one cause of the big battery and charger failing, it certainly did not help the situation.

What I want to do is have the outboard charge all three batteries whilst on the water and have a mains charger do all three batteries when the boat is parked up. NQWTT tell me the Pro Split R is the device to do that.

For any one interested in multi bank charging from the outboard when on the water and from a mains charger when at home, this is my proposed wiring system.........
Using Sterling Power Pro Split R diode switching device, Ctek M300 charger & BEP battery switches.

I am looking at getting a Stealth battery charger that will do what you are proposing. My boat has 2 Suzuki 115's each with a cranking battery. I also will run a 36 volt trolling motor - that's 3 x 100 amp hr deep cycle batteries.

I contacted Stealth and they will provide a system that will charge all of this while on the water, charging the 2 cranking batteries first, then the 3 deep cycles, while drawing from the alternator output of the 2 motors. They have quoted me US $650 for this. Also can be plugged into mains power at home.

Stealth are highly recommended in all the Bass / Boating forums so they must be the goods.

My boat is currently on a ship on its way to Darwin and won't get here before July. I will report on how this all performs when / if I hook it up.

Just recently bought a 'Powertech Plus' intelligent charger, charges everything 24v 12v wet, Ca, auto selects charge rate according to the battery requirements.
7 modes just about cover any situation.
Pretty happy with it.
