Weather observations

Post by Matt Flynn »

January rainfall has been very good for the Top End, and February is predicted to be wet.

Interestingly, this is despite the fact that no La Nina pattern evolved as expected after last year's very strong El Nino.

Also interesting is that there are indications another El Nino is forming, although it is still too early to predict with certainty, says the Weather Bureau.

The satellite image of Australia has been covered in clouds up north this January, and the fronts crossing southern Australia and hitting Adelaide have been impressive too.

If it is another El Nino it will be unusual, continuing more or less since 2014. Previous records indicate one or two years is normal.
