Actually Kp, you could, in the mud any way and it may work ok during the wet on hardstand......
If you grabbed an electric fence unit (battery powere), after parking up you could have the earth wire connected to a tent peg discretely shoved into the dirt (say behind a wheel under the car) and have the other wire bundled with the normal wiring and terminate it (say) under the drawbar. Not sure if you would need to isolate the trailer from the car (just in case it might upset the electronics in the car), but should be simple enough to put a rubber grommet in the holes on the car's towbar to isolate the chains, and some sort of rubber/plastic 'boot' over the towball and sit the trailer back on it so that for all intents and purposes it looks normal.
Just need to remember when you get back to be careful and turn the unit off before touching the trailer!!
