I liked the story from Tully, how the locals rejected the initial evacuation centre as looking a bit suss so they are all went and stayed at the second choice. And the first one was completely flattened, people would probably have been killed if they stayed there. Whoever chose the first building will be copping a few sprays I reckon.

I guess people see what they want to see.
The important thing is that everybody learns something.
Did u note that after crossing the coast Yasi diappeared? The BOM publicly accessible network lost it.
Never mind, maybe we could rely on the commercial tv networks' roving reporters in Georgetown and Richmond to keep us across what was happening.
There's one lesson. Suddenly there was very little info after the cyclone penetrated BOMs coastal perimeter warning network. Does that need to be looked at in Qld? That's happened before and there are now very useful BOM sites in Longreach, Emerald and near Charleville.
Is one needed in say Hughenden? If Mornington Is radar s...ts itself there's an awfully big gap in our warning system to the north.
Did u ever wonder why there are no trees in areas west of Hughenden,Winton and Barcaldine? Why all the dinosaur fossils in the area are the same age?

Geez Matt.
Any Qlder knows about Super Cyclone "Maroon" that wiped out the dinosaurs in Qld.
Was a cat 11 that simply uprooted every bit of vegetation in western Qld and carried it off. Has never grown back except for some low grass. The accompanying rain turned the newly exposed soil into a quagmire that entombed the animals. The Muttaburrasaurus, Doyouthinkhesaurus and Maybeheheardus became extinct overhight. With one exception (and I ended up marrying that one).
The dust and dirt was carried up into the atmosphere to be picked up by the jetstream and circle the earth at high altitude.
A prolonged winter set in and ended up triggering a new ice-age that ultimately killed off all the world's dinosaurs.
Now that was a bl..dy cyclone!!
