Talking to my grandmother and she said it had a fair effect as far back as Adelaide river town ship. Not sure how bad due to lack of housing and building codes back then but she seems to say it wasnt pretty even that far inland.

Well I read in Wednesday's Part 1 of the Cyclone Tracy saga that the township of Batchelor was being used as a refuge area for may feeling Darwin ..so perhaps it was untouched. Apparently Tracy was a fairly small BUT intense cyclone.

Cyclone Monica (Cat 5) a few years back came in through and area called Junction Bay just west of Maningrida. The trees were knocked over at Magella crossing. I drove the 220km long dirt road to Maningrida and most of the way there was not a tree left standing and those that made it had no branches left. Looked out to both sides of the road and you could see the horizon. I will post a few pics and then I hope it will make people realise that when these big ones can be fatal. My parents lived through Tracey. If one comes our way that big again i'll pack the car and boat and head out of town. I'd rather be fishing the Roper than trying to get my boat out of someones living room.
I'd get onto the BOM directly and they will fix you up. they love this stuff and its their job. I've got a mate in Sydney and he keeps hailstones and studies them????

Amazing picture. Shows what might happen when a Cat 5 hits Darwin.

Walkabout that picture from Monica is bl..dy frightening and after 80 km across land!! I have not seen the extent of the damage before and had no idea it flattened the scrub like that.
