I like to use that page to find out how much rain they've been having out that way, for a range of fishing destination decisions.
That's not the only station that has gone down in recent months / years - they used to have sites at Charles Point, and Lee Point (as shown on the map on this link) and these were handy in checking daily wind info (in 15 min intervals) for trip planning.
I called BOM to ask why they're down, particularly the Howard Springs one, and they told me that they were only running under 'project funding' and when the projects finished, the funding dried up, and they are no longer available.
Daily rainfall is still available via another page, but only once the 'volunteers' have input it (sometimes at the end of the month, and not on a daily basis), but it doesn't give you the 15 minute, or half hour updates that way it used to be available. When I checked Howard Springs yesterday, there was no rain input for April yet, 9 days into the month.
Pretty disappointed in the demise of these stations.
Anyone got any lobbying power with BOM?

I'll second that, the Charles Point anemometer was priceless, the Darwin meter does not give a good representation of the offshore situation
With all the pie in the sky projects governments can afford, you would think something so important could get funding. Might be a job for the future FISH FINDER Fundraising Assoc. Inc.

Hey guys cant help much on charles point data but after consulting the old man who is a bit of a weather boffin at howard springs he convinced me to post the url of his own weather station data for howard springs. Let me know what you think if you can use it and he might develop it further ie page counter and link to email for feedback.
