As a few of you knew I headed of down to WA to catch up with some family and have a go at Sambo Jigging. After a couple of false starts I ended up getting a ride on Allan Bevans boat the 'Shakari'. Allan is widely known as 'the' man to see when it comes to Sambos as he started the whole thing off around 8 years ago.
Headed of from Freo Fishing Boat Harbour around 6am on Sat morn heading for the grounds wide of Rottnest Island. The swell was around 3 metres as we headed around 30 kms out. The trip taking around an hour or so.
On board were a group of South Aussie tackle shop owners who had chartered the whole boat for 4 days. Good company.
Got to the grounds and went over the wreck to find a good showing of fish on the sounder. Lines went down and it was on. Most fights took around 15-20 mins on 80-130lb stand up gear.
Gear supplied was top shelf Stella's, Saltiga's, Torsa's and the Van Staal's with matching top class rods.
End total was around 40 fish measured and released for the day with all between 120 and 150 cms. No real monsters between them unfortunately.
Can definatll recommend this to anyone thinking about it but it does take its toll on your body big time. Even working a jig in 110 metres of water is damn hard work let alone dragging fish up.
Will post up some pics when my computer finally decides to play the game.

Helps when you know the skipper. Not sure exactly what he usually charges as mostly its a daily rate for the boat. Something like around $175 per person I think for 8 guys. Get a full day in too. Didnt get back to the wharf till 5pm. Can forward a number if anyone is seriously interested in giving it a go.

Very hard to get out with Alan during the peak season. I tried making a booking about midway through november for this coming weekend but they were booked for the days I could go out.
Chartering a 55 foot westcoaster instead. Got 8 guys going out so plenty of room. Doesn't supply gear like Al but that's ok because I've got 2 Stellas.
Will post up a report when I get back to Karratha. Can't wait, haven't had my arms stretched in a while! Bring on Sunday!

good stuff dodgy, used to catch a few just close to the back of Rotto a few years back, used to get towed around by em, i think it is a closed area there now though.
Been to those grounds out wide, its great, 4 or 5 fish hooked at the same time is frantic, i went with the bro and old man, poor old bugger could only handle two and he was stuffed, they pull pretty good!!!
well done, looks like there might have been a few beers and tales after that little trip!!!
