We arrived at our caravan park to be greeted by what we thought was a nice bloke. We set up our camp and had the car and boat parked along side our tents. Next morning we got a serve for parking where we did.(on the sacred grass). This bloke just panics about someone tripping over and hitting their head on the boat trailers and all he could talk about was litigation so we had to park the boat over in the mango farm where we couldn't keep our eye on it. Next we find out we have to shift our tent after 6 days so the grass doesn't die. You can imagine some of the camps that were set up and then having to shift them. Funny thing was the next lot of campers would come in and pitch their tent in the same spot as the last camp. Every time you turned around he was heading over to give someone a serve for something. One bloke was going to stay another 3 days but was told to shift his tent so he went home. Then there were 2 old blokes that were going home the next day so they packed up most of their gear and moved their car over so as they could plug the fridges in to the power. Next morning guess what? yep they got a serve too. I know of at least 8 people that wont be going there again including us. He needs to get a decent insurance policy and relax and everyone else can relax as well and enjoy the fishing after all that's what we went there for.

I know where you're talking about Stevo.
They can be a bit precious, but I think they mean well mostly, but I can definately see how they would rub people up the wrong way. Not too sure about this moving tent business, seems a bit of a joke.
I too got the insurance talk from him this year as I was packing up the tent. He come over and told me I'm not to park the boat trailer there. I told him I was just packing up,then he said "but you were parked there last night!". I said nope I was over in the mango's. He was apologetic after that.
They are definately camp site nazis, but they're generally friendly, but can be a little forward.

I am planning to head down for a few days in a couple of weeks and was thinking of staying at one of these campgrounds. Can anyone recommend a good campground without the hassels described.

I've never experienced any problems what-so-ever at the Banyan Farm.

Yep, have copped the "man trap spiel" on several occasions.
They started out well, but there must be something in the water on that stretch of the river. Seem to be developing delusions, as said earlier Who does pay the bills.

I think I know the park you are talking about.
I have heard the speach regarding trailers in the park before myself. Maybe you are right in saying he could get a diferent insurance policy, but just imagine if there were 50 boat trailers parked in alongside all the campers. Most campers take up more room than they are alocated and then would expect to be able to leave their trailer on the edge of the road. Making it more dificult for everyone.
I just spent 9 days up there. I get on very well with the owners. I have heard some off the stories from both sides. Some off us campers are absolute a#sholes to deal with.
I know how inconvienient it is not to be able to have the boat parked close by. But there are sites available where the boat can be parked pretty close.
The owners seem to bend over backwards to help us.
I would recomend it to anyone.

The bloke has had several mentions between the people at work on various occassions. He can be a bit over the top, even if he does have a point.

well stevo i just got back from 4 days at this camp site and i now wish i took your advice

he carried on about the grass, the trailers blah blah blah. to make it worst it was it was freezing and the hot water had run out 2 night in a row

then the gas BBQ ran out of gas and it took 2 days to replace it. but to top it off we were a bit late coming home from fishing on monday and he demanded that we pay another nights camping fees and was very aggressive in doing so
i will never go back

and would warn other about going down there. will have to give banyan farm a go next time if blinky recommends them then thats good enough for me.

I cant beleive how some Businesses up here treat their clients. I bet they dont realise how quick a few bad experiences can spread to a lot of people. Darwin is still not a big place and with a site like this, it gets a whole lot smaller.
Cheers

Banyan's the go. I know them personally and have camped there before it was a camp ground. In years gone by I too camped at the Gulag down the road. It was good for a while and we supported it but in the end i had a run in with him and politely told him he'd never see me and others again. I have kept my promise. Funny thing is I used to see him in town and he would say ' I haven't seen you for a while'. Sad thing is , i would always ring him (and him me) to see if he needed anything bought down as I was there practically every other week throughout the year. I often was the only person there through the week after the dry. I cannot comment on newer owner but I have got the drift from others. I stayed at Sinclairs a few times in the wet a few years ago when Banyan had no dry accom and found that a good place as well.
