G'day Forum and Merry Christmas,
-Fishing can be as expensive as you want it to be, as we all know-
Which brings me to my budget arse story...
Details: Location: Ipswich QLD River: Brisbane Section: Between Colleges Crossing and Mt Crosby 15mins from the town of Ippy Fish Targeted: Wild Freshwater Bass Rod and Reel Combo: some cheap arse little spinner reel and old two piece rod borrowed rod from me Father in law Lures: Spinner Baits (1/4 size purple and white/Bony Bream Color by Vortex) $14.95 and Kokoda G-Vibes (white and Black/Silver) $7.50 @ BCF Bait: None... Strictly Lures or it is Powertail Central
THE RIG: A $20 Doller pool toy inflatable boat thing, Comes with two plastic oars and pump- Kmart
What I learnt: Mornings were the hottest of Bites, with up to 10 Bass in a session Spinner baits were the go,a very slowly, very slowly retrieve through the timber just enough to get the blades circling encourages hits G-Vibes a cheaper alternative to the $30 Jackals and are pretty much the same are extremely lethal in open areas but I had trouble in the snagz. Bright Orange Pool Boats get strange looks by Landbasers especially when you chuck out a home made anchor
Happy 2012 FFFer's and Tight Lines
PS All the best for the Run off back home in the N.T

I grew up fishing around there.. Never chased bass but..
Fresh doe on a small hook and a float and we would catch garfish and cook them straight up on a fire at college's crossing. Up stream we chased jewfish.. Eeltailed Powertail... Great eating.
Thanks for the blast from the past

G'day Itsinmeblood,
Gave the surface lures a go, As I thought It would be pretty cool to see some surface strikes. Some young fellas gave me a tip that, cicada lures were the go at Dusk. Apparently they caught 15 the night prior
So I gave it ago.
Some factors: That day they let some water out of the Wivenhoe Dam which fillled the river quick, and myself... not too flash at poppers and surface lures... match to learn I still have
I should have went with a darker color cicada as well.
The bottom photo is pic of my hard earned results

Hi Aaron,
Great post, it reminds me of some of the fishing that I did as a kid... We used to target what we called Black Bass, when we were not after Pike, Zander or even sometimes... Carp !!!

yep a lunger...they also had the nickname"burnett river salmon" by the early settlers as they have similar coloured flesh when cooked probably why they're fairly rare now and the other one is a silver perch they go ok and take small lures occasionally but usually get them on worms If you want to get some cracking togas while you're down that way aaron see if you can get to lake borumba and chuck those spinner baits around the snags fair drive from Ippy but there's some horses in there I've seen a 92 landed and there's whispers of metre plus fish getting caught wet tackle box is being nice and polite
