Hi All,
Heading to Cardwell and heading out on a house boat second week in October and was just wondering what people thought we should do! Should we fish the Channel or Missionary Bay?? Does anyone have any hotspots for either location and favourite lure for the area??
Never been there before and really need some inside information if any one would like to give it up! We are keen to go, try and do anything to get into some fish!

G'day Wade
I am doing exactly the same thing in a little while and posed the same questions on a Qld based forum and got zip........
I have booked the Diamentina from Hinchinbrook rentayacht.
I intended on heading into the Missionary Bay area and mooring off the camp ground at Mucushla and fishing the creeks south of this point.
I have never been there and am going blind pretty much as I can't find any info or tips out about the area, although a book called 'Fishing the Hinchinbrook Wilderness' is a gem. $10 delivered, I ordered it from seamedia.com.au and was delivered in a few days.
I know I haven't offered any help but I recommend this book. Has the creeks marked and points of interest etc.
Hinchinbrook hey where do I start. As stated its an absolutely massive area to fish. You'll find upon arrival while up the channel the creeks themselves have very little structure compared to regular creek systems.
So if your chasing Barra you need to fish pressure points and drop offs or areas where currents meet. A prime spot to get an idea what I mean. When you leave port hinchinbrook marina look staight across the channel to the southern most point of the island. Head over there and if you have a decent sounder have a look around. You should notice right up towards the bank it drops off quite sharply, but its also a pressure point. Often there will be eddies forming there. Now there will be other boats there, but they are usually fishing for grunter a little wider. The barras will be in tight to the drop and they are always there. Whether they bite or not is another story
But you should get what I mean about areas to fish. There are thousands of spots like that one you just need to use your sounder and be a little bit smart. You'll find em

Thanks Cambo77,
I will give that a try! We have 2 boats with good sounders so hopefully we can work it out and get onto a couple! We are keen on all sorts of fishing not just barra! If we get a couple it would be great but just getting on the water and chasing some fish is the best part! Hopefully we can get a couple!

Missionary bay
Ok you need to be there on tides with a least 2 meters of run ie days before new or full moon run in tides are best. chase the tide up the creeks our rules are catch 3 fish move .
I mostly fish no 2 creek but there is fish up them all .fish the gutters not out in the main channels there is a a bommie up no 3 worth a look for jack. Live bait is best. I would send you some photos but can't figure out how on this web site yet I have posted some pics on ausfish. There is trout over at gould isalnd also lots of gts
I have fished the creeks on the main land side and it is not my pick.
If you wish to know more ask away
Goanna

If you are not just focused on Barra then the area is top notch for chasin Golden trevally on the flats with plastics or flies and the are some good holes in the channel for Golden snapper(fingermark).

If you are basing yourself in Missionary Bay, here is another option. Up in the bay on the island are some rocky outcrops. Throw lures at these on the runout of a high tide for Barra. It gets shallow quickly so keep an eye on your sounder. Concentrate your lures at rocky outcrops with oysters on them.......

PS I mainly fish the southern end. If you end up down there have a troll along the rocky outcrops near The Bluff. Here's what I found with that tactic:
