Interesting Mark, re the air in the guts from the spearing method of release.

Re the release weights - NT Fisheries research discovered that fish brought up with expanded air bladders had internal crush injuries that were likely to be fatal, so the release weights are probably a waste of time for most species in deep water.

You can really look at the catch and release being something that has grown over the years with all types of fishing.

Ive had bull sharks rip a barra out of the lip grips a few times on the daly in the years i have fished there that has scared the shiyte out of me..
You beat me to it about bull sharks on the Daly. Put the fish in my big landing net. Easy to keep it upright and let it catch it's breath

This revival thing that is part of catch and release just doesn't seem consistent with the crocodile safety message. Not taking the p..s but what happens when somebody is taken and dragged from their boat while releasing a fish?
