anyone know what the ramp and conditions are like at PT Stuart? Looking at a trip in November will most likely be staying on the boat. Any info would be great!!

Wondering about that roads condition myself. Can feel a pococks trip coming on! The ramp is good but only usable above about a four metre tide from memory.

Hey Timbo
Haven't been there, but speaking to a fella who has reckons that taking two 4WDs is a good idea along with a couple of snatch straps. Apparently as scottmac says, the tide goes out and the ramp is unusuable so if you muck it up and you need to get out having two cars saves big troubles. HAve heard that the road is often a trailer buster as well with plenty of deep corrugations. From what I am told it is a good trip for smaller boats that don't get bashed up on the trip in as bad.
Supposed to be plenty of jewies and goldies not far offshore.

Stuart's Tree Fishing Camp on Finke Bay is about to open for seasonal business.
Rates are $50 to use the boat ramp, while camping is $25 per person per day and cabins are $50 per person per day.
Tide is two hours later than Darwin and you need 4.2m to launch.
Call 8983 1223 or 8978 8863 for bookings.
And a little rant from me: The owner has spent about $800,000 out there getting it set up over the years and the NT Government has contributed no cash at all. Not that the Govt is really expected to fund private enterprise, however this is a great access point for reef and barramundi fishing and it is only open during the dry season.
I believe the NT Government should upgrade the last 27km of road out there to all weather status because this coastal access would be priceless in the run-off season.
The NT Government has stated over and over that it is committed to greater coastal access but has not yet created any, so here's a chance.
We all know the problems of launching at Shady Camp, and it's a long trip to Carmor and Love Creeks and the Wildman River around the hazardous Point Stuart reefs.
Maybe a Remote Area Access Grants system is needed to get these sort of commercial fishing camps started in the Territory.

If its going to bash my trailer about id rather launch from the South. 5M quinny don't need any crack to start to appear in the hull or loose a trailer to save a few ltrs of fuel and a few hours of my time.

For those interested to see what the beach launch looks like here are some photos from last year. All the comments about the state of the road are correct it is a shocker. I saw virtually every boat coming back with damaged trailers, in some cases their biminis had broken off, springs broekn, guard falling off that sort of thing. The track is very rocky with plenty of rock protruding from the surface. Smaller boats are the go with softer than usual tyre pressures or even better do the trip from South Ally? What you save in car fuel you spend in boat fuel so bugga all difference BUT you dont have to repair your boat/trailer when you get back.

Great pics from West Alligator Head. We stayed there 2 years ago in the build up and it blew 30knotts all day every day. Found the road in was awesome for the 3.85m tinny. Had a great time, highly recommend it!!!
Think we will be heading from the Sth

The point stuart road was nowhere near as bad as the pococks track when I went there a couple of years ago. I towed in my 535 tabs, mate his 6 m stager, a 5 m quinnie all no worries. Just a bit tight some places. Haven't been there for a couple of years though. Why dont you just call them and find out?

I was out there a month ago, you could take a two wheel drive out there.... I sat on 80 all the way (couple of corners come up quickly thou) nice and smooth all the way. It cost $50 to launch, if you are not camping... I'm not a fan of the ramp, it is quite shallow and there is no break for the waves that were coming straight in.... Still a better option than launching at Shady if you are bottom bashing....
