NRETAS Media Release: 24.05.10 Top End Parks Closure Update The Department of Natural Resources, Environment, The Arts and Sport (NRETAS) advises that parts of Keep River National Park and Gregory National Park, located south west of Katherine near the Western Australia border, are now open to the public.
Closures were put into place on 19 May 2010 when rainfall caused localised flooding in these areas so the decision to close the parks was made for visitor safety.
Localised flooding has now subsided and there is no forecast rainfall in the next few days.
Keep River National Park is open except for the Jarnem Campground and Walks which remain closed until further notice. Visitors are advised to take caution as there may be water still present in some low lying areas.
The current status of Gregory National Park is as follows:
* Sullivan’s Campground OPEN
* Victoria Gorge Access OPEN
* Escarpment Walk OPEN
* Old Victoria River Crossing OPEN
* Joe Creek day use area & walking track OPEN
* Bullita access road OPEN
* Big Horse Campground OPEN
* Gregory’s Tree OPEN
* Bullita Homestead & Campground OPEN
* Limestone Gorge to Calcite Flow walk OPEN
* Limestone Campground CLOSED (Severe flood damage)
In addition all 4WD tracks remain closed until further notice.
