Repairs I'm doing to the steering on the boat

Post by Scamper »

Have been loosing my steering over the last few trips, feeling the "cogs" slipping as I turn the wheel.
I've pulled the steering mechanism apart before, but wasn't sure what I was looking at.
Think I've found the problem now.

The outer cogs are worn and won't drive the steering cable from the motor.
Boat and motor are 12 years old.

Bought a Hydrive, too much drama getting the cable setup to fit the new layout. :banghead:
Just opened it up, still like new inside, same same cable, cost you a smile.

It's 250 to replace the cable or 1000 for hydraulic sterling. A lot more enjoyment and comfort with the hydraulic.
