Blue Hole Fishing with a Drone

Post by oscarbosca »

G'day,

Thought I'd write up a quick report of some blue hole fishing and some photos with a drone.

Few months back launched at six pack creek ramp and drove out to a blue hole around Dum in mirrie island.
Had a blast of a day on small stuff- Golden Trevs, Cod, Mangrove Jacks, Tusk Fish and the odd annoying black tip reef shark on any bait we slung over.

It was a cracking spot filled with around 20 large turtles happily swimming around the boat all day. Saw some big stingrays and sharks do the last minute bolt into the blue hole before being beached. The fish were all pretty small, with the trevs around 40-50cms, all caught on softies.

If anyone is into photography and fishing then you should look at one of these drones, they are awesome. Amazing stable footage and super super easy to fly.

All in all a fun day and matched with some cool photos on the drone.

cheers

Some very cool pics

It would be great to have a video feed back to the boat and do a fly over feeding birds
to see which way the tuna school heads or even see if the marlin are in the area .

hmmm ,got me thinking now

can you put a pic up of the drone set up?

Some great potential in these little beauties.
The drone is a DJI Phantom Vision 2+, a cracking birthday present from the wife!

They are getting better and better in terms of range and video quality etc. Mine has a range of approx 400metres, but the new model (priced over $4000 though....) can go 2km. They really are super super easy to fly, they are stabilised by GPS so you can take you hands off the controller and it will just hover wherever you left it..

Was looking forward to some hot barra boofing action over the run off, could just put the drone up above people flicking and catch all the boofs and hookups!

Often thought about getting a drone to check out creeks and flood plains during the runoff. Just send her up and see whats working without having to leave your spot.

Great Stuff  :applause:

Pity about the lack of fish, but looks a likely spot. Often wondered why these blue holes (Vernons included) don't hold many quality fish, but rather smallish stuff.

Larger (more experineced) jobbies too 'smart' to get locked in ????

There are some mad ones out there, some with fpv screens on transmiters. another I looked at you could program it on you pc to fly a certain path at a certain altitude and it had a 40km range! Heap of vids on you tube for interested folks!
