Keeps popping up in the fishing news, a fair run out from Darwin but some fishos seem to be doing well on it.

Heaps of Pelagics hanging off it, Trevs, jacks and queenies in close, tuna out wider. No billfish but.... move movement the better. Just keep a respectable distance and you're fine. Even had a queenfish smash a skipping gar coming past it

What's it doing out there? (Is it drilling?)

Cheers

It's currently hot stacked. Which basically means everything's ready for a contract to start. It remaining in OZ for so long would mean a lucrative contract would be starting early 2017

it's been sitting there for about 18 months now. She's only really a shallow water rig, good for depths to 1500ft, most exploration is in depths of 1500-3000 metres now so the scope is limited for her unless mooring chains are on site. Won't be going anywhere in the near future, no bookings since 2015 and none on the horizon.

all the more fun for us!!!

There was a story going around that if it didn't get a contract in the next 4 months it would be going home. So fish it while you can. Good Macks, Queen fish and cobia hanging off it at times.

They do thiere maintanance on it inshore during the wet season. It is the same rig that was previously in the harbor. While it was in harbor it needed security boats and this costed a fortune. By being parked off shore this isnt a requirement.

It's all over for that old girl.

She'll sit there until the scrap dollar hits it peak then it'll be towed away.

It would work 24/7/365 if it had a contract

Won't have anything to do with scrap price. It would be costing a few hundred thousand a day just to keep it there. Which is pocket money if it was to secure a contract. They would have bids on work that is still outstanding. And moving it out of Australian waters you have the real threat of losing their safety case that costs a fortune and can take years to get approved by NOPSEMA. The last rig I worked on with transocean was scrapped and over $100million worth of brand new gear was left on it and sold as scrap weight because it's cheaper for the company than removing, storing and selling it.

We also heard that the scrap yards were full from all the old rigs being scrapped and weren't taking any more

Nice idea but very expensive to clean. Plus would probably need 100m of water
