I remember a scene similar to this about 30 years ago on the Murray River near Echuca at Torrumbarry Weir when the yabbies were this thick, people were scooping them up in nets and filling their eskies. One bloke had the floor of his Holden ute covered in a layer of yabbies all 4 or 5 inches long.
Damn they look tasty, I havn't had a feed of yabbies for years, the old man was telling me he was been getting yabbies earlier this year fvrom dams that havn't held water for at least 7 or 8 years, and they were bigger ones.
Cheers, Billy

Correct species - wrong location - the yabbies are going ballistic in the River Murray but I have it on very good authority that these photos were taken up in the Cooper Creek - but yes they are amazing photos - I have heard of blokes scooping them out with shovels - wouldnt take ling to et your 200 per person ehhhhh.
Mate of mine out at Dundee showed me those same pics yesterday.
Cheers
Shane
