A few mates and I are heading to Townsville for about a week . We want to wet a line and were after some decent land based spots.

Also do you recommend live/dead baiting or sticking to lures?

There are accessible rock walls at the Ross mouths that produce big barra, jacks, trevs and more. These are probably the best landbased spots, although they do get fish off the beaches and some creek mouths at high tide. The new FISH FINDER book has most of the Townsville creek mouths pictured at low tide, some of these creeks mouths near town are easily accessible.

They also get fish in the lakes in town.

Livebait vs lures is largely a preference, you could fish both. If using lures on the walls I'd keep moving along the wall. The boys at Tackle World Townsville will help with further info.
