Haha, mechanical failure.. yeah right. More likely he cut the corner not realising what he was doing..

Mechanical failure ie the nut holding the steering wheel
In motorcycle racing, they say that a bike had an electrical failure. Usually that means the piston smashed thru the head and knocked the battery leads off.

these blokes are going to cop a hell of a ribbing from the rest of the coppers for a looonngg time
