Apsley Strait secret spots

Post by theodosius »

Hi guys,

We're heading to the Apsley Strait this weekend for a few days, keen to drift and jig for a jewie or goldie. What sort of ground and depth should I be looking for? Cheers,

Jack

Just have to look for the coral bottom and you'll find the goldies up there.

Starting about halfway up where it widens out a bit, can find some good eddies behind rock bars and the mouths of creeks, have caught the goldies from 5-50 metres up the strait

Jewies have found tend to be in the deeper water there, change of tide is good

Cheers
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Especially when you can see them!

Haha. Thought as much. Is there any phone reception through there? I have a sat phone but would be good to check bom occasionally? Other than the south end rock bars any other saftey concerns throughout the straight? good anchorages?

Crazy tides and flows up there. Near Wurrumiyanga and Pirlangimpi there is reception. Plenty of good anchorages around. Lots of rocks around at low tide but you shouldn't be able to hit any if you travel by day or keep an eye on your plotter
