Re: September rain
Should slow down the scrub fires and make everything a bit greener.

Re: September rain
Will this early rain cause fish kills if there isn't much of a follow up?

Re: September rain
I wondered the same Jer. What I am hopeful of is that the early rain will green everything up and arrest the usual fires that we get at this time of year. It should top up some of the small water holes and give the fish a chance to survive and become bait. And hopefully it will let all the bugs breed and create additional food supplies that will carry on into the wet season.
What I noticed last year was the lack of bait around, overall we got almost decent rain but a lot of it was late and there did not appear to be abundant bait to feed everything. Last year was really hot and dry and the scrub fires were very intense and did a lot of damage. The next few days of rain won't create a runoff but it might be enough to trigger the food supply for when the rains do come.

Re: September rain
That is the million dollar question - one big rain and then nothing can be bad, but if it keeps raining, it is very, very good ...

Re: September rain
Just got back from camping at Gumlom with the family. We were going to stay 'till Tuesday. I estimate we had in excess of 100mm last night and this morning. It didn't stop from about 6pm last night until about 10am this morning. The rangers came around at about 8am and let us know if we want to get out anytime in the next week we better pack up and head off as the South Alligator had risen over a meter and was continuing to rise. When we crossed, it was maybe half a meter under the bridge. All the creeks were flowing well. So maybe a good start...........
