Harbour mangroves

Global warming and overfishing. And any good news we can dig up.

Harbour mangroves

Interesting the claim about the harbour going downhill, I am curious what facts are there to back that up.

I acknowledge that the Gulf mangroves are in trouble, but I have not heard of anywhere else with similar dieback.

" Fishing" 600,000 is not much of a bait to dangle for such an important issue if the issue is truely there.
I to have noticed a lot more new growth in the places I fish and I don't see the mangroves receding or at a point of die
I think they need to come up with some conclusive proof to back up what they are saying
The past is history, the future is mystery, the moment is a gift and that's why it's called the present

Rather than mangroves dying/receding, I think more the point is the ongoing clearing and x10 increase in industrialisation as a result of 'progress'.

Why would anyone be bemused that the harbour is going downhill - it's a no-brainer ....

Interesting that there has been a big die off in one region whilst Sampan and Tommycut continue to be inundated with new growth. I don't think the poor wet season is to blame, it might be a contributor but this is not an unprecedented event so it seems odd to me that we have a problem in one region.

some species of mangroves need fresh water flushing to properly exclude salt Dannet, without a good wet season and a flushing the salt concentrations become too high and they die. I strongly suspect this is what is happening in the Gulf
