Night fishing advice
Hey hey I'm thinking of heading out for a cheeky night fishing experience whilst these tides are ok and the wind forecast seems fine. Just looking for advice as to where is best to anchor and fish? Safety wise. So yeh safety tips basically and maybe what can be caught. This will be out first "overnight" fishing attempt and any advise will be amazing. We r thinking of out front of Darwin to fish in that big reedy patch. Should we get close to the bouys? Or get further away?

The artificial reefs are away from the shipping channel and always a chance for jewfish. Watch the forecast, the sou'easter might drop in the arvo, but will pick up again during the night/morning if there is a high in the bight.

Safety tips?? make sure you keep your light on when anchored, and your nav lights when underway... Plus the obvious one of following your gps trail at a manageable speed if coming home in the dark, and keeping an eye on your nav charts.... There are big tides with a midnight low so you can safely assume that there will be stuff on the way home that wasn't there on the way out.
but as Matt said, stick to the wrecks and you should be pretty safe, and have the security of other boats being not too far away.

All so mate watch out for the bl..dy big black boys the size of a truck that have no beacons on them ,one poor bugger hit one in his Stabi 6.5 mtr he was thrown out the boat it was only that the police found his wallet on board ,contacted his family and found the poor bugger swimming for his life in the harbor.

As mentioned above. Take it slow, check the wind forcaster, you don't need to be out in the channel in deep water, u can find a sheltered spot close to a rocky outcrop in shallower water as the fish can and do feed in sallow water at night. Comfort n safety first, good luck.
