Where Am I

Post by grumpy »

Not a hard one but my point is are we better of now or 20 years ago.

A perfect example of the salt intrusion and how it changes the land scape.

The changes out there have been unreal - have to look real hard to find the boat now

The mouth is still very recognisable. Except for the lack of other boats.

I can remember the bottom billabong where the boat is back in the mid 70's being freshwater with the banks lined with lily's and weed. You could fish as far as the channel (known as drum crossing) that goes into the top of Sampan. We used to drive around the flood plains and put the dingy into the top of Sampan which was tidal and loaded with Barra and small threadies.

Even in that photo you can see the tidal influence has begun to take effect. I went to shady the other day (which prompted the posting of the photo) for the first time for years and could not believe how there are mangroves all the way from the barrage to the mouth.
