Ha, I might have some historic images of the harbour in the archives, although they are available online in low rez. Easy enough to make them into a gif file.
Your image is a cracker, be nice to have them of the Daly/Adelaide etc.
Wasn't so long ago that Shady Camp had an S-bend

Here's a story about a paddlewheeler that sunk 150 years ago.
Was dug up recently hundreds of metres from the river and 15 metres below ground.
Boat hadn't moved but river sure had in that time.

Have a look at google down around the Moon billabong entrance and clean skin creek. It is easy to see the crescent moon shape clearings that are formed by the Daly meandering over time.
King creek entrance in shoal bay and half way up the river are another two good examples. Many years ago there was only one king Creek and now there are two. Half way up it lost 2 bends in the river from a wash out breaking through. It is amazing how quick the mangroves grew over it all. I actually watched the wash out half way up break through for the first time when a large section of bank collapsed and the flow of the water changed into a different path.

Changes in one part of the Fitzroy R near Rockhampton.
3 GE shots over years.
The 1991 shot is actually in 2004 (no GE in 1991) and I've squiggled in where the bank used to be in early 1991.
In Dec 1991 the river cut through the narrow bank during big flood isolating the point into a new island ( 2005 GE photo).
The last shot shows 2015. Hardly any water behind island now and big sandbar has formed right in the middle where the flood run used to go around the island and down the river prior to 1991.
Within 20 m of the edge of that sandbar is the main channel now of 60 ft at low tide. The run really rips through there.

Re: How much does a river meander?
Interesting topic. I learnt a while back that in aboriginal culture they view water as a living thing as it has such power to change the country. When you think about it, that point of view is full of logic.
