Fish starting to show in the lake

Post by Dick »

Fish with a bit of size from the restocking are starting to show in the lake, some just over a metre but most still under that size. 80 to 95 seems common, next size is about 60.

Here's a vid from the last fullish moon in October. These ones are still the remnant stock from the failed fishery that went bum up about a decade ago, not the new stock. There are a few of these big old ones kicking around.

Yeah the black and white one really gets revved up by fish. Chases them when she can.

Heard the red claw were a bit hard to find at the moment, seasonal thing I think. Yes nice fishery the lake. they dumped the last 25,000 fish in there the other day, well over 500,000 been put in there now. The first 30,000 fish were released in January 2013. We still need to confirm what fish are old ones and what fish are new ones. I think you can tell by size and shape but we need to be 100% sure to establish growth rates.

No luck this weekend, one only at 93cm. But no deckie dog either so there might be a connection haha. Had them sitting on a little rise where it drops into a now sunken small creek just on its junction and the old river. Calling it Lockjaw Rise :bricks: .

Tell me about it :D No tide, ultra clear water, but fish with all the wild fish instincts etc etc. The jigsaw is far from complete.

Found a few the other day in the lake while out sooty fishing, . Spotted Large schools of barra in the 40 to 55 cm range, in mobs of dozen or more. They where swimming over weed beads like schools of mullet was great site. They where bit doey but once one decided to eat lure the rest fired up , was good fun on the light gear ...

Get another 20 to 30cm on those fish in that same environment and there'll be some frantic times  That'll be next year :D
