Roper river guide information

Post by Justnormal »

Could anyone please advise of a barra guide that operates on the Roper river? Three of us are looking for 2 to 3 days fishing on the river mid-June 2016.
Thanks.

100+ people read his post, but no one answered it .... problem is there are few, if any, guides who work the Roper, aside from the motherships.

Call Katherine Rod and Rifle, they may know someone. Or call Darwin guides, they might be persuaded for a two or three day charter, but no doubt it will cost extra because of the travelling time.

I read the post but didn't think "stuffed if I know" was a valid answer.

It was a good idea to start here but just make a few more inquiries if you are really interested in anything in general

the Iron Lady mothership used to get around there but not sure if they still do. I don't think there is a local guide.

Try calling Roper Bar Store I know a fella used to do guide trips out of there but it was quite a few years ago.

Hi

No guide operates on the Roper that I know unless someone has popped up recently. Its a long way from Roper Bar to the mouth.

Are you travelling to the Roper to fish/boat/camp and then plan to find a guide?

Travelling to Darwin and looking to find a guide to take you to the Roper fishing/guiding for a few days?

If u are going to tow own boat there and camp, there are plenty of other options.

Thanks for all the responses. Will be in the vicinity of Roper river following a buffalo hunt out of Ngukurr, that will finish around 12 June. Will be flying light plane from Melb. to Ngukurr for that, so wanted to do some fishing then, as will be close to the Roper. Otherwise, can more or less fly anywhere in the NT to fish, noting associated flying time costs. Thanks to all.

justnormal, as matt Flynn suggested give Rod and Rifle a call and ask for Warren (the owner) he goes fishing there a lot and he has lived in Katherine for many years and may know of some guides there

Why not engage a guide to meet you at Ngukurr when your buff thingo is finished.

Should imagine that Ngukurr people might be reluctant to provide accommodation if you're not using their services unless they're willing to provide the guide service for you.

They have a couple of "come-back" boats that would be ideal and nobody knows the Roper better than the local Ngukurr rangers. Better than any guide.

Alternatively meet a Darwin based guide at Roper Bar flying over there (10 minutes) after you finish yr business at Ngukurr.

Or meet him at Tomato Island camp (10 minutes by boat).

Roper is a great river system.
