east point

Post by johno24 »

Drove out to east point this arvy for a quick flick. Pretty nice conditions. Arrived about 1hr before high tide and fished the rocks about 100m back from the east point reserve sign at the end of the road. I was using night metal lures in blue and red, swapping lures after about 30 mins or so but had no hits at all unfortunately. Another guy there using live bait had no action either. A couple young blokes waded in with their spearguns and came back with a barramundi after about 10mins being there haha. All in all not too bad a day, beats being at work !
Anyone have any good tips for fishing east point ?

I'm think you maybe talking about the same spot but as your driving past the museum, where the road divides at the gun tower, keep left and at the end turn left again. Park near the big tree on the right about 100 meters up or so. Walk over to the furthest point off the rocks, on an early morning incoming high and belt them slices out as far as you can. Have caught Macs, trevs and quennies in the past (cooler months though). Doesn't always produce but then again, I dont actually know a spot that I can say is consistently producing the goods. Good luck

I have been using lures there the last couple of mornings with no luck so far.
Will be trying live bait and different lures/tides/times until I work the place out. Hopefully.
East point is the most convenient place for me to fish at the moment so I will give it a good crack.
The advice I have recieved so far is poppers on low tide and live bait on high tides.
We'll see.
Jim.

Got the pm thanks Brendan.
For some reason I can't find a way to reply. Maybe it's my tablet or maybe I don't know how a forum works anymore....

It's been to cold down there on a morning low , try fishing a low tide
latter in the day once the water has warmed up.

cold water at east pt good for macks & skinnies (Dry)
warm water in the build up is much better for chasing Barra,

Dont leave anything valuable in your car there. Poppers on a calm day neap tides works well off the rocks half way out - GT's and queenies!

Definitely don't leave anything in your car! I've had my car broken into there.

Cant beat some kind of white bait imitation, i see a lot of ppl use 15g - 20g white gillies and they always pick up some kind of pelagic... really hit and miss that place.
