Another Casting Deck Mod....
Hi All,
After having brought a new Seajay 485 Tropic in March and having fished it hard for a few months it was painfully obvious that the factory Casting Deck was woefully inadequate. Not only was it too low for my liking but there was very little storage space in it and what there was had a tendency to get wet and stay wet. Added to this was the issue of having the Esky on the main deck in the way and in direct sun.
So here is a progress update on the new deck in full alloy complete with self draining gutters, tackle lockers and padded carpet because I'm getting soft these days...
More to follow as the work progresses. Sorry for the poor picture quality.
Cheers,
John.

Nice work! You can do mine next!
One thing I was wondering, is I've heard alley floors tend to get a lot hotter underfoot (even with carpet) than Ply ones? I will be interested if you find this to be the case.

Re: Another Casting Deck Mod....
Thanks Guys,
Scottmac, I have 18mm of closed cell foam underlay between the Alloy and the carpet. I got the idea from a mates' SX210 Skeeter, they have the last couple of feet on the casting deck towards the bow padded. I originally decided to do the padding to stick it to him because he bangs on about it a fair bit but since standing on what I have done so far I am stoked at the diffence it makes on your feet. Figuring out how to do the hinges was a nightmare though!
Cheers,
John.

I have a ply top on my cast deck with paint only (no carpet) and it gets as hot as hell!!scottmac wrote:Nice work! You can do mine next!

Re: Another Casting Deck Mod....
I'd like to convert my two bench seats in my tinnie into storage areas, whilst retaining the ability to use them as seats and also additional casting decks. If I were to remove the foam from the seats and relocate the foam to underneath the floor, would I have to re-enforce the seats to retain their strength and stability? And would cutting a lid of sorts into each seat reduce their structural strength?
