I know it's not always possible but coming from down wind and down tide usually works pretty well.
If the tide is pushing the bait along I try and stay down current and follow along behind them.
This may sound a bit weird but if the wind and tide are agains each other I would stay down wind, this worked really well in Hervey Bay.

Set the deckwash up with a large spray

Yeah mate, I seen pro tuna boats using
Big sprays off the boat to keep the fish
In the zone . I ve only tried it half a dozen
times and it seems to work well.
