Where is a good place to get a few kilos of lead cheaply? Not interested in tearing down old batteries.

Thanks guys, I'll check out Sims, I don't need it cast as sinkers as I what I want to do is melt it down into a piece of tube that I am going to use as a small flats anchor that I can deploy without any noisy chain on it.

A Bamboo pole works good as well. Just push it into the mud and have a short tether to that. You can use it to push yourself around as well if needed. Just another way of doing it.dannett wrote:Thanks guys, I'll check out Sims, I don't need it cast as sinkers as I what I want to do is melt it down into a piece of tube that I am going to use as a small flats anchor that I can deploy without any noisy chain on it.

I've been considering that option too, like a poor man's talon. Anyone know what is the logic of mounting them on the transom is?cuddlescooper wrote:A Bamboo pole works good as well. Talons are more effective transom mounted due to the engine/boat weight & hull dynamics etc..
Not the same bow mounted and bobbing around etc...

Re: Sinkers Wanted! !
Good point about the bobbing around, I hadn't thought of that. But.... wouldn't the boat want to pivot around the pole when the wind blows or the current is running? In addition to the flats I am planning on using the setup in harbor creeks / drains and billabongs where there is too much weed to use a normal anchor.Hemi wrote: Talons are more effective transom mounted due to the engine/boat weight & hull dynamics etc..

Yep..of course, youll always have that effect when only using one anchor/mooring point.
